Speaking at the opening ceremony of the International Islamic Unity Conference, Jaafari expressed hope that that conference will take practical steps aimed at strengthening the status of the Islamic Ummah.
Quoting the Qur'anic holy verse 'And we thus made you Muslims a moderate Ummah', the Iraqi top diplomat said that under the prevailing conditions of the Muslim World, the Islamic unity is a dire need.
He said that the Muslim nations have always been moderate and peace-loving and can serve as a model for the other nations relying on Islamic unity.
Referring to the prevailing conditions in Iraq, the former Iraqi prime minister said that although the terrorists penetrated into various Iraqi cities and villages and destroyed them, but the Iraqi nation fought against terrorism resorting to entire possibilities and is on the verge of uprooting them thoroughly.
