"(It is) a decisive turning point in our common efforts to make the lives of peoples sustainable and prosperous as well as a healthy planet," Ban said here at a meeting with the press.
According to the Secretary General, the agreement reached on Saturday in Paris, with the support of the 195 Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, is the most significant action in years to uphold our Charter mandate to “save succeeding generations.”
The agreement includes reducing emissions of greenhouse gases to keep the temperature increase in the range of 1.5 degrees Celsius and measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change, which requires significant financial support, especially in industrialized countries.
