Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani who was addressing a group of members of Central Council of Society of Followers of Zeinab (as) yesterday, pointed to different views of women in different historical contexts, believing that taking extreme positions about women blurred their true status. “Some who might have had good intentions but had immature understanding of Islam, isolated women into retreat of their homes; however, Zeinab’s role during different points in history of epic of Ashura indicates that Muslim woman could actively engage in society with adherence to the rules of conduct,” Hashemi told the meeting.
