The Supreme Leader’s letter was in response to an earlier letter sent by President Rouhani to Ayatollah Khamenei in which the Iranian President had felicitated the Supreme Leader on the nuclear breakthrough made in Geneva by the Iranian negotiating team and the Group 5+1 (US, Britain, Russia, China, France and Germany).
The deal was made after intensive negotiations between the two sides.
The EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton who represented the Group 5+1 during the talks referred to the nuclear deal as a “first-step agreement on Iranˈs nuclear program.”
