Some 29 former US political and military officials in an open letter o US president called for direct talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The letter read that Iranian presidential election provided a good opportunity for the US to resolve nuclear dispute with the Islamic Republic of Iran and improve relations cut off over the past three decades.
There is a suitable opportunity for both sides to resolve other issues such as current developments in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, read the letter.
Due to complexity of the situation in the Middle East region, direct talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran is of prime importance, the analyst said.
We believe that time is ripe for changing the track of Iran-US relations, he said.
There were too many chances for restoring relations in the past three decades which all were ignored, he said.
Given the appropriate atmosphere at the White House, it seems the US officials to regard the open letter seriously, he said.
I believe that the US government calls for establishment of direct talks with Iran, if the county voices readiness, he said.
New Iranian President-elect Hassan Rohani who won landslide support in recent presidential election has valuable diplomatic experience which can usher in a new horizon for expansion of relations with other countries, he said.
He also enjoys support of the Supreme Leader as well as Majlis which are very important for such a decision making, he said.
Taking office of a new Iranian president along with rampant unrest in the Middle East region will be a good reason for Iran and US to go ahead with direct talks to help resolve them, he said.
He said that direct Iran-US talks should be held in the context of the current nuclear talks between Iran and G5+1 and being complementary to nuclear talks.
US administration should spare no efforts to initiate confidence-building procedure with Iran and indicate that it seeks to resolve differences and never pursues regime change, he said.
