Officials of the two countries signed an agreement during a meeting in Kutaisi - the second largest city in Georgia - to further bolster mutual cooperation in free trade zones.

According to the agreement, free zones in Iran and Georgia's Kutaisi will try to boost bilateral economic ties, head of Aras Free Trade and Industrial Zone Organization Sadeq Najafi said.

The Georgian side along with a number of foreign investors will visit the Iranian free zones in near future to review avenues to make investment in trade and industrial areas, said Najafi.

Iran and Georgia have in recent years accelerated their efforts to expand bilateral and regional cooperation in all the various fields.

In mid-December, Iranian Ambassador to Georgia Majid Saber and Georgian Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Khatuna Gogoladze in a meeting discussed expansion of the two countries' cooperation in different environmental fields, including biodiversity and maritime environment.

During the meeting held in Tbilisi on Saturday, the two sides called for the further development of mutual cooperation between Iran and Georgia in environmental spheres, and laid emphasis on the precise implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and agreements already signed between the two countries.
