Two Iranian pilgrims were killed and four others injured on Thursday after a service truck crashed into a passenger lounge of the Jeddah Airport.
"The Saudia Airline Company is responsible for the incident because the service truck which hit the passenger lounge belonged to that company," the Arabic-language al-Watan newspaper quoted the Saudi Civil Aviation Organization as saying.
The SCAO also pointed out that the truck belongs to a subsidiary company of the Saudia which provides the airline with land services.
Yesterday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates' Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said that Iran's Consulate General in Jeddah is pursuing the case with the recent deaths of two Iranian pilgrims in Jeddah.
"Iran's Consulate General is in close contact with Saudi officials and has been following up on the issue since the Iranian pilgrims were killed," Qashqavi said.
Qashqavi said no official cause of accident has been established by Saudi officials, who have requested more time to investigate the case.
Earlier yesterday, two senior Iranian parliament officials announced that the foreign ministry plans to send a fact-finding delegation to Saudi Arabia in a bid to probe the deaths of two Iranian pilgrims killed in an accident in Jeddah.
"The Saudi government is necessitated to provide security of the Iranian pilgrims since the time they enter the Arab country and should be accountable in this regard," head of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said.
Also, rapporteur of the same parliament commission told FNA on Saturday that "a fact-finding commission comprised of officials from the Iranian foreign ministry and a member of the parliament's National Security Commission will be sent to Jeddah to probe the incident".
Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini also underlined that his commission would pursue the case until the rights of the Iranian pilgrims killed in the incident are restored.
Two of the wounded Iranian pilgrims were treated on the spot and were flown back to Iran, but the other two were hospitalized.
