"The medium-range Agni II missile, with a strike range of over 2,000 km, was test-fired from Wheeler Island off Odisha coast at 10: 20 a.m. The Agni-II missile carried a dummy payload instead of a nuclear warhead during this test. The test-firing conducted by the Strategic Forces Command of the Indian Army was successful," the sources said.

The Agni II missile, developed by state-owned Defense Research and Development Organization, has already been inducted in the Indian Army. The missile is 20 meters long and weighs 17 tons. It can carry a payload weighing 1 ton, Xinhua reported.

India plans to test-fire Agni V, with a strike range of over 5, 000 km, in June.
