"These four basic materials have been produced in knowledge-based companies of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and sold to the Iranian pharmaceutical companies in a bid to enter the pharmaceutical market after undergoing scientific-legal processes," Public Relations Manager of the Pharmacology College of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences Mansour Rastegarpanah told FNA on Sunday.
Underlining the importance of the development, he noted that this is for the first time these basic materials are produced in Iran.
Earlier this month, Iranian Deputy Health Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ramezan Mohsenpour announced that Iran has produced 12 new medicines for treating special diseases.
"Production of medicines domestically is the best way to confront the sanctions; to the same end a number of 12 medicines have been produced (for special patients) and supplied to pharmacies in the country," Mohsenpour told FNA, and explained that the West had boycotted the supply of the 12 drugs to Iran.
He also expressed the hope that the country would soon be able to produce other drugs whose supply to Iran has been banned by the western states.
Iran has taken wide strides in science and technology, particularly in medical and medicinal fields, in recent years.
