After the end of their talks, the representatives of Tehran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany) who participated in the two-day talks in Almaty's Rixos Hotel on Tuesday and Wednesday announced that they will continue negotiations in the same Kazakh city. They didn't specify any time for their talks.
The two sides also agreed to hold an experts meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, before their next round of negotiations in Almaty.Iran's deputy chief negotiator Ali Baqeri and EU foreign policy deputy chief Helga Schmitt are due to attend the March meeting in Istanbul.
Iran and the G5+1 held a first round of talks after months in Almaty's Rixos Hotel yesterday and the meeting lasted for almost three hours. The two sides attended a second meeting this morning which ended a few minutes ago. The Iranian delegation present in the talks with the world powers has announced that it would issue a statement to the press following this morning's meeting.
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili headed the Islamic Republic's negotiating delegation. The G5+1's representatives were led by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
The two sides are due to announce the results of their talks in a press conference later today.
On February 5, Iran's deputy chief negotiator Ali Baqeri and EU foreign policy deputy chief Helga Schmitt in a phone talk agreed that the next round of talks between Tehran and the Group 5+1 be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on February 26.
Before the Almaty talks, Iran and the G5+1 had held three rounds of negotiations in Geneva, two rounds in Istanbul, one round in Baghdad and one round in Moscow. The last round of talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 was held in Moscow in June.
