Upon arrival at Cairo Airport, the Iranian president was warmly received by his Egyptian counterpart.
Ahmadinejad left Tehran for Cairo at the head of a high-ranking delegation earlier today to attend a summit meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on February 7.
Speaking to reporters before his departure for Cairo, the President said that he will try to prepare the grounds for the expansion of cooperation between Iran and Egypt during his meetings with senior Egyptian officials in Cairo.
Ahmadinejad said he is visiting Egypt for the OIC summit and at the official invitation of Egypt.
"This is the first official visit to Egypt in at presidential level after 34 year and will definitely affect the 34-year long-ties and the relevant issues," he said.
As regards his agenda in Egypt, he stated, "We will try to prepare the grounds for the expansion of cooperation."
The summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is slated to be held on February 6-7 in Cairo. The OIC Summit is titled 'The Islamic world: new challenges and growing opportunities.'
