The UNSC must not impose sanctions on any country because of forged dangers or fabricated illusions, but just in case of serious global threats or a real aggression, said Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Gholam Ali Khoshrou addressing the Security Council on “Working methods of the Subsidiary Organs of the Security Council: General Issues Relating to Sanctions”.
Venezuela which is holding the Security Council presidency for the month of February planned the debate.
During the same meeting, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Vladimir Safronkov said that some members of the UN Security Council misuse sanctions, acting as if they are entitled to control certain countries and entire regions of the world.
