Ahead of his departure for Moscow, Velayati said the visit comes at the invitation of the Russian Institute of Strategic Studies, and he is due to meet with a number of high-ranking officials, as well as to participate in the conferences and forums of Russia-Iran cooperation in the modern geopolitical context.
Describing Iran-Russia ties as unprecedented and influential in both the region and the world, Velayati said they can play a very constructive role in establishing peace and creating a suitable condition for promoting international interactions.
Regarding his previous visit to Moscow in January, 2015 as a special envoy for Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, and submitting Rouhani’s message to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Velayati said the two sides agreed on efforts to promote Iran’s status at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
