The annual cost of refugees in Germany could be up to 55 billion euros per year, if the refugee influx continues at this rate, said the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW).
The cost estimate is based on projections that one million refugee would enter Germany annually until 2020, IfW analysts said, adding Germany is facing its 'biggest (fiscal) challenge' since the country's 1990 reunification.
IfW experts predict that 30 percent of those refugees arriving in Germany would later on leave the country to return to their homelands, while 70 percent of them would stay permanently in Germany.
The annual cost for each refugee is estimated at 13,000 euro.
