"Canberra is not satisfied with the current level of relations with Tehran and intends to develop and equip its embassy in Tehran," said Peter Joseph Noozhumurry Varghese, Australia’s Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on Thursday, in his meeting with Abdolhossein Vahaj, Iran’s ambassador to Canberra.

The Australian diplomat also voiced his country’s support for implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was signed between Iran and 5+1 in Vienna on July 14, and reassured that Australia is taking the necessary legal steps for having sanction free relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The two diplomats also discussed the ways to expand bilateral economic ties and exchange of trade and political delegations between the two countries after the implementation of the JCPOA and removal of economic and financial sanctions against Iran.

Briefing the Australian official on the latest status of practicing the JCPOA by Iran, the ambassador referred to the bureaucratic measures taken by the EU and the US for removal of anti-Iran sanctions and urged the Australians to speed up their moves.
