German Federal Crime Office said that as of December 7, some 817 attacks against refugee have been registered nationwide, compared to only 199 attacks for the whole last year.
Most of the attacks were reportedly staged by German right-wing extremists.
Reacting to the dramatic surge in the number of attacks on refugee homes, German Justice Minister Heiko Mass called them 'shameful.'
The real figure, say analysts, is probably much higher as many refugees fail to report attacks, mainly because they do not want to bring further attention to themselves.
Most of the attacks have been physical assault and verbal racial insults on refugees, as well as arson, focused on empty buildings, freshly renovated and awaiting a new group of refugees.
