'Two of the terrorists who were seeking to attack the pilgrims in al-Dorh district in southern Baghdad were arrested on Friday,' said operation commander Brigadier General Saad Maan.
One of the arrested terrorists was carrying a bomb, Maan said, adding that the arrests were made based on accurate information received by the security forces.
The Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman also said that four other wanted terrorists were detained south to Baghdad in al-Karghool neighborhood.
He said that the arrested terrorist elements had planned attacks on Iraqi citizens.
Massive security measures are in place in Baghdad entrances and other parts of the country as millions of Shia Muslims are travelling to the Iraqi city of Karbala in Iraq to commemorate Arbaeen ritual, which marks the 40th day following the seventh-century martyrdom of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).
