Heading a delegation including 250 high-ranking political and economic officials, Renzi was welcomed by Iran's Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh upon his arrival at Mehrabad Airport, on Tuesday morning.
The Italian premier is scheduled to meet President Rouhani, and a number of Iranian senior officials to discuss the development of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries during the post-sanctions era and active participation of Italian companies and investors in Iran's markets.
The visit by Renzi and his accompanying delegation to Iran will also be aimed at addressing hampered connections between Iranian and Italian banks, lifting the barriers to trade and financial ties, as well as enforcing the agreements the two countries have previously signed.
