Iran criticizes extension of Ahmed Shahid’s mission

Foreign Ministry spokesman has referred to the recent resolution passed by the UN Human Rights Council for extending the mission of Ahmed Shaheed, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, as an unnecessary and illegitimate move.

Iran criticizes extension of Ahmed Shahid’s mission

The decision was politically motivated and merely based on hostilities towards Iran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari said on Thursday.

Jaberi Ansari said that Iran does not feel duty-bound to accept and obey this resolution.

He said that the composition of the group of countries supporting the resolution is a clear evidence of the West’s instrumental use of the UN Human Rights Council and that the resolution has been politically motivated.

The spokesman said the combination of the countries that initiated and supported the new resolution with governments that have backed the idea including the Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar, has clearly indicated that it is a politically motivated resolution and that the West has clearly used the Human Rights Council as an instrument.

Those countries do not respect human rights themselves, including the rights of women and immigrants as well as the basic rights of their citizens, particularly the critics of their governments.
