In a letter addressed to UN Secretary General on Monday, Gholamali Khoshroo while condemning Saudi Arabia’s provocative action in executing Sheikh Nimr, outlined the Islamic Republic’s measures to prevent any incident regarding the Saudi representatives in the two Iranian cities of Tehran and Mashhad.
The ambassador lamented the fact that despite the extensive efforts of the police, a number of protesters had managed to enter the embassy and inflict damage on the buildings, and added “the Islamic Republic of Iran with an emphasis on its obligations in compliance with the international regulations and relevant documents, especially the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, will spare no efforts in apprehending and prosecuting all those responsible for the incident.”
“Following the incident, President Hassan Rouhani issued the required instructions to concerned authorities including the Ministry of Interior, and urged them to expedite pursuing the issue and the prosecution process of the perpetrators,” said Khoshroo in the letter.
