Ali Asghar Ansari told Mehr News that currently some 100,000 websites are being hosted by servers in Iran while one of the top priorities of the Information Technology Organization is to support investment in developing the country’s hosting capacity and provide the private sector with ample opportunity to take advantage of this field.
“We plan to provide suitable conditions in which all Iranian sites that are hosted abroad due to the high costs here will be instead hosted by domestic servers,” he said.
Ansari maintained that these 100,000 websites hosted by Iran include both private and state-run websites, adding “websites with the .ir domain have a share of 50 percent and the other 50 percent is divided between .com, .net and .org domains.”
Ansari had previously told MNA that hosting popular non-Iranian websites inside the country would be possible once international content delivery networks (CDN) were made available in Iran.
