'An Iranian company became the first manufacturer of the ground power unit (GPU) for the aircrafts in the Middle East and one of six producers of the same product in the world,' Managing Director of Nik Avid Sharif Company, the company that has produced the same product, Peyman Mirzayee said on Tuesday.
The preliminary design of the product was conducted by the graduates of Sharif University of Technology.
'The technology for manufacturing of the engine that generates ground power for airplanes was only monopolized by Russia, China, the US and Britain up to now, but the Iranian experts managed to manufacture the first GPU in the Middle East,' Mirzayee said.
He noted that the engine which procures the ground power for the airplanes in the interval between two flights when the plane engine is off and there is no electric supply source for aircraft is supplied by attaching the GPU to the airplane.
Mirzayee noted that checking and controlling some airplane systems in the interval between the two flights and also opening the doors of airplanes is also done by attaching the GPU to the plane.
