At the end of the quarterfinal round of Iran’s Hazfi Cup, Naft of Tehran were knocked out to let Esteghlal of Tehran progress to the semi-final round against Tractorsazi of Tabriz.
Tied at 1-1 after extra-time in their quarter-final encounter at Tehran Takhti Stadium, the blue giants of the capital city won 5-4 after 14 spot kicks. The blues who had led the event 1-0 till the 92nd minute conceded to a late goal by Vahid Amiri to let the event last for two 15 minute extra times.
While the scoreboard witnessed no change in the extra time, the two teams lined up spot-kicks which started very promising for Naft after the first kick of the blues by Omid Ebrahimi was out of the goal frame.
However, Rahmati’s saves rescued the IPL’s table-toppers and Esteghlal left the pitch victoriously.
