Elections in Syria unpalatable to western tastes

A Damascus University professor of political sciences says to Mehr News presidential elections is a turning point in the country’s contemporary history, and unpalatable to western tastes.

Dr Bassam Abu Abdullah, who was giving an interview to Mehr News correspondent in Damascus, said that Syria was in its historic moment which made it incomparable to other countries holding elections.

“Because Syria is facing a full-fledged war, holding presidential elections indicates public support for the government and army in handling the situation and it is also fighting terrorism,” he added.
