African Nations Sign Peace Agreement to Help Eastern DRC

Eleven African Great Lakes regional nations signed a new peace agreement aimed at bringing relief to the war-torn East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.


 
 
 


The document was signed Sunday at the African Union's headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in the presence of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

The DRC's East has been torn by an armed conflict for almost two decades, with numerous rebel groups acting in the region.

The new agreement may prompt the creation of a special UN brigade in Eastern DRC
