He expressed optimism over the future talks between the US and Iran on the nuclear issue and said Washington and Tehran have to discuss not only the Iranian nuclear program but the situation in Syria as well since both share views on confronting extremism and need for annihilation of chemical weapons.
During his Sunday TV interview, President Obama, announced correspondence with his Iranian counterpart, given the fact the two countries have had no talks in the past three decades.
He dismissed the dual track policy suggested by President Obama to get to an agreement with Tehran and said it was all too clear that the policy of talks and dialogue is now given priority by the US statesmen.
Limbert who was formerly in charge of Iran desk in the US foreign secretary office also noted that the upcoming visit of President Rohani to New York is a golden opportunity for both Tehran and Washington given the fact that both countries are presently very inclined towards pursuing a policy of diplomacy, dialogue and interaction.
He described as very dire the situation in Syria and, referring to the agreement between the US and Russia to work out a diplomatic settlement for the chemical issue in the country, believed the agreement was a very positive step forward despite the ongoing massacre and clashes in Syria.
He said the US is certainly unwilling to once again experience the same calamities it faced in Iraq and Afghanistan.
