Air Force Commander Blames Technical Flaw for Sunday Crash

A senior Iranian Air Force commander blamed technical failures for the crash of a jet plane near the country's Southwestern town of Abdanan earlier on Sunday, and said the aircraft was a jet used for training purposes.

Speaking to FNA in the Southwestern city of Ahvaz, Commander of Dezful Air Base Hassan Zareshahi confirmed the crash of the military plane, and said, "The aircraft was a training jet and crashed during a (training) mission."

The commander said "the plane crashed due to technical flaws", but declined to mention the specific cause of the crash, saying experts are still studying the incident.

Two pilots were killed after an Iranian Air Force jet crashed into the mountains in Iran's Southwestern Ilam province this morning.

Governor of Abdanan Morad Nasseri told FNA earlier today that the aircraft was an Air Force F-5 (which is normally used for training Iranian military pilots) and crashed into a mountain near the town of Abdanan this morning.

He said that the jet operated for the Army's Air Force base in the Southwestern city of Dezful.
