"Parallel to the expansion of mutual cooperation between Tehran and Baku, the Zionist media are trying to negatively influence the two countries' relations by magnifying (the extent and importance of) Israel-Azerbaijan ties," the Iranian ambassador said.

"Several positive events happened in the past several weeks such as the visit of the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (Saeed Jalili) to Baku and for the same reason the Israeli media have increased the volume of their (anti-Iran) articles to damage our ties with Azerbaijan," Pakayeen added.

Jalili, in a meeting with Azerbaijan's President Elham Aliyev last month, underlined the significance of security cooperation between Tehran and Baku for ensuring regional security.

During the meeting held in Baku on February 24, Jalili said the historical and brotherly relations between Iran and Azerbaijan have provided good grounds for the promotion of security cooperation between the two states.

"The security cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan will ensure the interests of all the regional states and will guarantee regional security," Jalili stated, adding that the two sides will not allow any third party to leave a negative impact on Baku's resolve in this regard.

He added that the age-old cooperation between Tehran and Baku will create proper conditions to prevent foreign meddling in the region.

Aliyev, for his part, called for the improvement of ties and cooperation in political, economic, cultural, security and regional fields between the two nations.

President Aliyev also reiterated his support for Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

Iran has recently enhanced efforts to boost political, economic, security and cultural ties and cooperation with the regional and neighboring countries, specially the Central Asian and Caucasian states.

In October, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad traveled to Baku to attend the 12th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization. The Iranian and Azeri presidents met on the sidelines of ECO Summit.
