"Right now and in a bid to establish security along borders, the Iraqi border guard unit is working with our country to control borders," Zolfaqari said, speaking to reporters in Iran's Southwestern city of Ahvaz, the provincial capital city of Khuzestan, on Wednesday.

As regards cooperation with Turkey, Zolfaqari stated, "In joint borders with Turkey, border control is done on both sides and border security is growing rapidly."

He added that Iran seeks daily cooperation with the neighboring states to control borders and wants the border control units of the neighboring countries to exchange real-time information with their Iranian counterparts even if it pertains to very minute events along the shared borders with Iran.

Iran shares open borders on the West with Iraq and Turkey, on the East with Afghanistan and Pakistan, on the South with the Persian Gulf littoral states and the Sea of Oman, on the North with Armenia and Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea, and on the North East with Turkmenistan.

In December, Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that the existing friendly ties between Iran and his country have positively influenced the trend of control over the two countries' shared borders.
