Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, exchanged views on latest developments in Syria with UN special envoy for Syria over the phone today.
“What halted the process of Syrian peace talks in Geneva and Syria-Syria dialogue, was the lack of differentiation between terrorism and opposition list,” deeming the participation of some known terrorist figures in the talks as unproductive.
He further underlined the political solution as the only way to settle the conflict.
De Mistura, calling Iran’s role as constructive, said the upcoming session of International Syria Support Group would take the issue into the consideration and find a proper mechanism for the peace talks.
The fourth meeting of International Syria Support Group is scheduled to start on Thursday, Feb. 11, in Munich, having Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in attendance.
