Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Russian counterpart, Mikhail Bogdanov, discussed the latest regional developments, including the crises in Syria and Yemen in a telephone conversation, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
The two sides talked about the latest developments regarding the upcoming round of international talks on the Syria crisis, the third this year, which is reportedly scheduled to be held in New York on December 18-19.
The senior Iranian and Russian officials also discussed ways to bolster the political process in Syria.
The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has thus far claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and left over one million injured, according to the UN.
