Turkey detains police officers on espionage charges

Turkish authorities have arrested dozens of senior police officers on charges of illegal wire-tapping and forgery.

A total number of 67 serving and former top police officers were arrested in a criminal probe, according to prosecutors. Turkish media believe the recent detentions represent new round of crackdown on Gulen movement. Self-exiled Fethullah Gulen who lives in the United States was formerly a close ally to Erdogan, but they have turned into rivals after the movement members allegedly revealed corruption in Erdogan’s cabinet.
