Iran celebrates National Khayyam Commemoration Day

Iranians celebrate the national day to commemorate world renowned Persian poet Omar Khayyam on May 18.

 

 
Omar Khayyam was a Persian polymath, philosopher, mathematician, astronomer, and poet of 12th century BC. He also wrote essays on mechanics, geography, mineralogy, music, and Islamic theology.
 
He was born in Neiyshapur, an Iranian city in Great Khorasan, cradle for knowledge and science. He moved to other cities and worked as mathematician and astronomer of medieval period.
