Quake Hits Eastern Iran

An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck an area near the town of Sar bisheh in South Khorassan province, Eastern Iran, on Monday.

 

 
The Seismological center of South Khorasan province affiliated to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University registered the quake at 04:42 hours local time (0012 GMT).
 
The epicenter of the quake was located in an area 60.03 degrees in longitude and 32.47 degrees in latitude.
 
Iran sits astride several major faults in the earth's crust, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
