He made the remarks in a meeting with the Head of Hizb Al-Kataeb party Amin al-Jamil on Wednesday.
He said it is necessary that countries playing key roles in regional developments such as Iran and Saudi Arabia attend the international event.
In the meeting, both sides reviewed latest developments in the region mainly in Syria.
Russia calls for holding of the Geneva 2 conference with participation of those countries playing significant roles in regional developments, he said.
