Rohani-Putin meeting opens new chapter in bilateral cooperation: scholar

The Russian ex-Duma member said on Saturday the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rohani in Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, opened a new chapter in expansion of mutual cooperation between the two nations.

 

 
 
Speaking to IRNA, Shamil Sultanov, head of the Center for Middle East Studies underlined that efforts made by both Tehran and Moscow at a time that the Syrian crisis is a great challenge for regional states, are vital and constructive. 
 
President Rohani and Putin held talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek on Friday. 
 
Tehran and Moscow can undoubtedly play a pivotal role in settlement of the regional crises, Sultanov noted. 
 
Iran’s support for the Russian proposal would pave the way for resolve of the crisis in that Arab country, he said.
 
Russia always believes that Iran has right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, he said, stating that Moscow could play an influential role in resumption of negotiations between Iran and the P5+1.
